Parliament was opened this afternoon by Commission, but nothing was done except the swearing in of the members of the House of [Representatives, and the election of a Speaker. Tomorrow His Excellency the Governor will deliver hi» speech, which, it is said, will be almost identical with that delivered by him at the late session. *
O'Eorke was gracefully re-chosea — Grey proposing and John Hall seconding. Reader Wood and Atkinson complimented O'Borke t on his appointment. There* were some seventy M.H.R's. present, and sworn in, the variety of new faces presenting quite a novel feature. I believe the Government have a large majority on their policy, but only a small on*.' on the no-confidence question, but parties have not yet got into shape. It is reported that the New Zealand Time* newspaper has been sold to a resident of Dunedin, and that he will take possession next week. Anderson, of the Chronicle, has entered a libel action against the Kangitikei Advocate, damages £2COO.
