Last'night.
One of the Maori prisoners from Taranaki, a nephew to Wiremu Kingi Matakatea, died to day of lung disease.
A.t the declaration of the poll for Hutt and Wellington Country Districts, the numbers were unaltered. Jackson, the defeated candidate for the Hutt, stated that he intends to petition against Mason's return on the ground of irregularities.
At a meeting of the Working Men's Rights League, it was resolved "That a deputation be appointed to wait on the Government and request them to set aside suitable blocks of land for settlement, and urge upon the Government the necessity for selling land on reasonable terras, as the best way of promoting the settlement of the country.'
