THE SITUATION UP THE KIVER.
The following message was forwarded to the Government late last night, and, on Ihe face of it, does not augur .well for the early end of the trouble: —
" Pakeoa. Wednesday, 6 p.m.
" Tukukino has just returned from an interview with the Ngatihako. They refuse to give up the culprits. They say that ' let the pakeha come up and take us.' Tukukino has decided to call in all the peaceful Maoris and let the pukebti gol and take tho belligerents. He will hold a meeting of' the natives to-morrow to discuss the question."
Mr Wilkinson is in waiting to take tho rej#y of tho Native Minister to P*eroa, ans will proceed, overland at once upon receipt of the communication. Mr Packey left by steamer this morning.
