News from Afghanistan states that the rebellion is spreading. The Affredees and other mountain tribes are organising to oppose the British.
The English garrisons at Candahar and Jellalabad are compelled to exercise jrreat vigilence to prevent the inhabitants openly joining the rebels.
General Massey awaits' reinforcements before advancing beyond Shutcrgarten.
General .Roberts telegraphs to the Viceroy that the situation is most serious, and calls for reinforcements amounting to double the number of men now in the field. He says it is impossible to make a dash at Cabul.

News from Afghanistan states that the Ameer's guards gradually deserted Yakoob Khan, who fell defending himself against the mutineers.
The advanced posts of the British reached Shutar Garten on the Bth, and occupied the road to Cabul through Paracha Pass, which, it was said, was defended by hostile tribes.
The rebellion has ex'ended to Herat. The bitterest animosity is manifested. Theban is abandoned.
All Burmese capable of bearing arms are summoned to Mandalay.
The British, fearing a threatened general massacre, sought refuge across the British Burmah frontier, where Brown resided, and remain awaiting events.
