Last night

The body of a child, apparently stillborn, was found yesterday in the Avon, opposite the cemetery. The body was in a sugar bag, which was filled with stones and made to sink.

A man named Jno. Cunningham was arrested oa Saturday at Lytlelton, on suspicicn from a striking resemblance to Martin Cunningham, the murderer of Hugh Hanna at Lake Ohau on November, 1875. On being brought to Christchurch he was examined, and on enquiries being made, it was found his representations were not correct. He is well known in the If urunui diatrict, and was released at once!
