INVERCARGILL.
Last night
At a meeting of the County Council resolutions, were passed requesting the members of both Houses to support any amendments in Countiei Act which would permit of each riding in a County being rated separately for general purposes sufficient to meet its own requirements for public works plus its share of County working expenses. The mover pointed out that in some ridings no great expenditure for roads was required, while in other cases it was different. He saw no good reason why these ridings which bad provided themselves with roads should be compelled to levy a rate equal to which was required for public work*. At the same time a resolution was passed urging that County Councils should be endowed with tie same privileges as those enjoyed by Harbor Boards, Municipal Councils and other bodies.
Mr J. S. Shanks, M.H.R., resigued the County Chairmanship owing to his enforced absence at the Parliament during the time when the most business was being transacted by the Council. The appointment of his successor was postponed. The girl Luca, who was missed from Limestone Hills some days finoe, has turned up all right.
