Tallow is in good demand, and stocks of all sorts are eleven thousand casks. Mutton is 3os and beef 32s per cwt. The leather market is firm, and best hides are worth 9Jd.

On Wednesday evening a vessel was seen north of Jackson's head, apparently drifting; she had part of her sails set, and the little steamer Torea has gone to look for her.

The steamer Australia, with the inward London- mails of August 14th, left San Francisco on the Ist September, contract date, and the City of New York with the outward New Zealand mails of August 19, arrived at San Francisco on the 9th of September, two days in advance of contract time. ;
