Pakboa, 11 a.m. This day. The evidence of Messrs Puckey and Wilkinson was completed before the runauga yesterday^and the committee of the tribes are now, this morning, summing up the evidence at the Criterion Hotel, Paeroa. When their duty is finished judgment will be delivered this afternoon 1 in the presence of the whole of the tribes. The judgment is expected to be guilty, WITH A BECOMMKNDATION TO MEBCY. No. 3 went on to the range j yesterday at 10 a.m., fora day's firing and practice. The Mnjor fired the first shot —a bull's-eye—and declared the range open, congratulating the company on the possession of such an excellent range. Mr C. F. Mitchell followed suit—another bull's-eye—and addressed the volunteers in a befitting speech. Mr J. Leydon, of the Thames, gave three prizes for the three best shots, for which he was heartily thanked. The company then commenced and did good work for the first time. After firing had ceased the whole company adjourned to the Criterion Hotel for refreshments. After the usual Loyal toasts, followed in complimentary terms, Major Withers, Lieut Grant, the Premier, Native Minister, Major Murray, and the Thames Volunteers, and more than my »pace will permit me to write.
