Municipal Election.
After we went to press yesterday the appearance of the street near the booths became more animated, a considerable crowd being collected in front of the Court House. Although it was remarked thut there was but little cheap beer, the hotels in the vicinity were fairly patronised, and one or two little disputes nearly culminated in an appeal to fisticuffs. These differences were generally stopped by the police before an open breach of the peace occurred. At 6 o'clock the booth's closed, and after about three-quarters of an hour the Returning Officer appeared at the dof>r and announced the result as follows :— NOS.TH WABD. Bawden ... ... ... 166 Renshaw ... ... ... 82 MIDDLE WABD. Osborne ... ... ... 180 Brassey 150 followed the announcement, and some of the more ardent supporters began to look round for the successful candidates. Mr Osborne only could be found, and he ascended the platform and thanked the electors for the honorable position to which they had that day elected him.
