WELLINGTON.
Last night. A careful investigation has been made into the circumstances connected with the
n-cent fire at the Port Nicholson Club, and the result showed that the fire had originated from matches dropped and probably nibbled by rats. At the annual meeting of the Racing Club last nii;ht the report showed that although the meeting had been more satisfactory than previous years, yet it had not been a financial success. After the business was concluded somo discussion took place relative to reducing the prizes, but it was ultimately decided to allow the matter to stand orer.
