Rewi on the Thames Affair.
THE PEELING IS WAIKATO.
Xihikihi, Monday.
I interviewed Rewi to-night on his arrival here from Cambridge, regarding the late Maori disturbance. He is very much annoyed about. He says that those natives who committed the outrage have no claim whatever to the disputed land, as they had it taken front them many years ago by conquest. He says he will give them no quarter whatever, if they come near his territory, but will capture them and deliver them tip to justice. I He has sent numbers of his men from | the Funiu to watch the several places where the would-be murderer* are likely to cross if they make for the King country. I took a ride into the Maori country yesterday on purpose to get the opinion of the natives in general regarding the the affair. They were very much astonished, and on asking them the question, they all replied to one man thnt they would not protect the murderers in any way, but would assist all they could in bringing them to justice. Sub-Inspector Minnctt in charge of the Armed Con. stabulary station here, has his men ready at a moment's notice, in case of any 'emergency. —Herald Correspondent;
