The insurance is unknown at present. 'Sir George Grey was received at the theatre with great cheering and a few hisses, but the latter wore speedily suppressed. The following are the election dates issued :—Akaroa, nomination, September 1, poll, 6th. Kaiapoi, nomination, September 1, and poll September 5. i The Premier did not arrive a£ Christchurch till half ;past one, 'instead' of twelve as announced; a large crowd, principally working men who were released at their dinner hour, were consequently disappointed, but there was a crowd again at the latter hour fixed on, who welcomed Sir G.? Grey very heartily. A short address of three lines was spoken of by the Mayor, and Sir George Grey was then invited to a lunch, with the Council. In the evening he visited the theatre. A map showing how the runs were gridironed in the early days of Canterbury were placarded in the town. Cook and Kilkenny the English billiardists play here the week after next.
