.A- largely attended meeting of 'sheep owners from Northern Amari, Clarence and Wairau districts, was held this afternoon to consider the advisability of apply, ing to GovernmenV to amend the Sheep Act; 1878, and extend the period 7pr cleaning runs, A resolution was carried, " That this meeting requests Government to take the, necessary steps to cause the Governor to suspend operations of sections 23, and 26 to 29, in Marlborough and Amuri for as long a time as the Act allows, and that the interpretation of the word " run/ in section 6, should be altered to mean any sheep station, farm,; or part thereof being substantially fenced. In clause 33, to take away the arbitrary power of Inspector, ; arid enable the Magistrate, to inflict a penalty on: owners —minimum £10, and maximum £500."
