A requisition is being got up asking Walter Johnson, the present member for Manawatu, to stand for Wellington. The requisition is being rapidly signed. It is uncertain whether Johnson will stand for the city, as a large number of people in Manawatu are anxious he should stand against the local candidates, Halcombe and Nelson.
The .writ for;two thousand pounds at the suit of the proprietor of the Saturday Advertiser against Geo. Darrell for libel has been placed in the hands' of Mr Travers, who defends the one action against Darrell, and proceeds with one for £5000 against the proprietor of the Saturday Advertiser , Tuesday. The Union Steam Shipping Co.'s new steamer Tarawera (Penguin) arrived at Hobart Town, from Glasgow, on Sunday, and was to leave again yesterday for Port Chalmers, arriving in New Zealand waters about the end of the present week. The passage from Glasgow to Hobart Town occupied 102 days. Immediately after her. arrival at Port Chalmers she. will take up the Ladybird's running in the East Coast trade. *
