Judge Ward has declined to stand for Timaru owing to the amount of Court business at present on hand. Various names are mentioned, but the tact is the constituents are in treaty wilh an outside politician. Wakefield refused pointedly, as there is little chance of his being opposed for Geraldine. The struggle here will be very exciting. Turnbull's friends are working very hard.
Five mounted constables who arrived on Saturday, en rsule for Waitaki to assist in the removal of troublesome Maoris, returned to Christchurch to-day. Weather wet and threatening.
