Members of our Thames local bodies, and the public generally, will be glad to learn from telegrams published by us tbi day, that the Government are disposed to j assist the local .bodies put, of their financial embarrassment, which it is only just should be., done, considering their exceptional position, with no endowments worth speaking of, and the large quantity of land in the hands of the natives not liable to taxation, and consequently have to. conduct the local government of the district almost entirely on the monies derived from the ratepayers. All our local - institutions w.buld have been in a nice pre-; ;dfcament now, had not the Bank of New Zealand; taken a view of their circumstances and fostered and helped them through the many monetary difficulties in which they have been plunged almost since their birth. The thanks of the whole community therefore are due to the Bank of New Zealand as represented by Mr T. L. Murray, for the uniform liberality that has characterised their transactions with our representative institutions.
