Wellington Gossip.

[By Telegbaph.]

; (fbom a coeeespondent.)

Wellington, Last night.

I have seen the Hon. Wi Parata whose son is among the number of those arrested at Urenui for ploughing, and who is going to be brought to -Wellington with the other prisoners. He says he does not feel pow™ about the matter, as though his child had committed some evil deed, whereas he has only been entering a protest' with others of the Ngatiawa who have been despoiled of their lands by a, conspiracy on the part of the settlers and Native Agents in Taranaki. He will wire the people along the Coast to refrain from further ploughing, thinking their passive protest has gone far enough.

The passive, resistance, shown by the Natives arrested is regarded as a sure indication by those au fait with Native affairs that the legality of the confiscation will now be tested, and both Mr Travera and Dr Buller are spoken of as being employed to defend the ploughers.
