THAMES EXHIBITS FOE The Sydney Exhibition.

A large number of persons visited the Court House to-day where; the Thames exhibits for the Sydney Exhibition iwere displayed on temporary frames, made . to! the order of the local committee. ; The J' fine historical painting, " The Finding of Rufus," from the master hand of the Bay. R. Laishley, was the cynosure of all eyes, and- from its many excellencies we are. sure it will be favorably received inSydney. Another painting, •• The Babes in the Wood," from the brush of the same gentleman,, afford! a farther example of that gentleman's skill in depicting forest scenery. The painting •of -these two pictures has been the work of years, and by themselves, well repaid a visit. A smaller oil color, " A Maori Girl," was ! also i admired. Mr John Calder, another jlocaj artist sends" A scene on the Ohinemuri River "—a picture possessing many igood po;nts. The catalogue of oil colorp includes " A view on Tararii Beach," by Mr H. Driver. Mrs Ei. F. Tizard contributes a' valuable collection of watereolors of New Zealand, wild - flowers, and berriest All are wonderfully true •to nature. jA number of handsomely . mounted fern pictures are also to be seen amongst the exhibits. The artist photographers, Messrs Foy Bros,, have prepared a number of views of the Thames, which would give the stranger a very good; idea of the topography of the town' and its surroundings. Mr J. Walker; >(J!.E., sends a series of plans of a model homestead. A colonial oven, manufactured at the establishment; of Mr Fishtir, is T tlie jonly representative of oven hardware 'industries. "'■ The manufacturers of articles of are represented by Messrs Ehrenfried Bros, and: Brown and Lampbell ales, Messrs Kbefoed (Shortland) and Walker (Hape Creek) tomato^ since, and ..Kelly and Fraser Puriri water. | The Thames Produce Company send three boxes of kauri gum, and the. timber industry will be represented "by cMesjsrs BagnaH Bros', exhibit already described? .Mr Plant's collection of pottery, w.a» not ready for exhibition to-day, but will be sent with the other articles. Thisgentlemaa exhibits a collection of ,clays ! and minerals suitable .for the manufacture of pottery. Another exhibit in the mineral kingdom is a collection of lead and copper ores from the, Comstoek lead rii'tie, Tararu Creek. This-jbas been exhibited by Mr J. C. Williams. Messrs Climo and Bawdon of the Tararu Chlorintjtion works send au exhibit iHnstratiag j the trealnient of,tailings and pyrites by their method. Mr H. J. Jones' collectidn of gold specimens, we regret tolearn, will not be sent,, as there is some difficulty about their insurance. Taken on the whole! the show is very .*'creditablJßp*t<s}t^e:'T^paies, and if other towns in New Zealand ?eud exhibits in equal proportion to the Thames this Colony will be well representeo at the Exhibition. f Since morning a number of other articles have been sent m to jthe Committee. Amongst them is the cabinet of specimens belonging to Mr Jones. Mr Lawless will exhibit «the splendid woolwork picture " Horses at the Fountain," which has been exhibited in his shop for some weeks past. Mrs Wayte has sent round a valuable relic in the shnpe of a large earthenware dish over 200 years old. It is evidently h;and made, and is ornamented with intricate designs, and raised figures. It bears: the inscription-?-" J. Hicks; Anno Domini, 1650."
