OHINEMURI.

(FEOM OUB OWH COBBEBPONDBNT.) Paeboa, This day. The soiree, concert, and dance under the auspices of No. 3 Thames Scottish, in honour of the Queen's Birthday, was held in the Hall last night. A great many Thames friends were present, including Major Murray, Rev. S. J. Neill, Miss Belcher, Miss Hume, and others. The members of No. 3 looked conspicuous in their new uniforms. The Hall was well filled, and tea was laid on the tables at 6.30, which appeared to be thoroughly enjoyed.

After; tea the Chair was? taken by Mr C. F; Mitchell, who made a few remarks suitable to the occasion, complimenting the No. 3 Company Upon their -progress, and the success that had attended their efforts in getting up the present entertainment. The Chairman then called upon" the-"Rev. Mr Neill, who had preached to the people "of 'Paeroa the previous ;Sunday, toy say a few words as Chaplain of the Battalion, remarking that he was a thorough Scotchman, more than could be said of many of the members of the several companies. Mr Neill said he was sorry to contradict the Chairman, but that he was a thorough Irishman, not a Scotchman (cheers); but ■till he was pleased to occupy the position of Chaplain to such a fine body of men as the Thames Scottish Battalion. The speaker concluded a very pleasant speech by reciting Gerald Massey'a poem, "The Battle of Inkerman," which was received with applause by the audience. Major Murray said he was glad to be able to report to the Hon. the Defence Minister that No. 3 Company was progrossing so well under Sergt. Collins, and, .notwithstanding the distance many of the men had come, and the bad roads, the attendance at drill was very satisfactory. -He n was very .pleased at being present, and congratulated the company upon the success attending the entertainment. The concert then proceeded, when songs were sung by .Miss Fergusson, and other ladies- and gentlemen, and musical pieces by Miss Belcher and' Mr Dew&r. After the concert, dancing commenced, and was kept up till 5 o'clock this morning. All departed very tired, but very pleased with the night's. enjoyment.
