Cambridge Land Court.

Cambeidoe, Yesterday. At a meeting between Manga and the Ngatibaua chiefs on Friday night, Manga desired to have the Ngatihaua side of Maungatautari included in his line. The Ngatihauas refused to allow him control over the lands. A meeting was also held between Manga and the Ngatiraukawa chiefs. Bewi declared that there should

be no fighting, no selling, no roads ; but on'the other baud, he would stand by the Government. A. lengthly discussion took place, during which Aperihama said Rewi was not able to take care of the line on his own side. Rewi then stripped off his coat and said he had nothing more to say to the Ngatihauas, but to the Europeans. When asked who he would put on the land within the boundary, Rewi replied : Tawhiao; lam Tawhiao. In answer to a question how he proposed to take the Ngatiraukawa boundary as he had threatened if they did not consent, Rewi said: The words were not his but Tawhiao's. Potatau had formerly claimed from Waikato to Tongariro. If the Ngatiraukawa insisted on surveys he (Rewi) and they would go into Court together. Enoka accused Rewi of wanting to smother the Ngatiraukawa tribe. Rewi said ho wanted their land to prevent their selling it. Enoka said Rewi only wanted to get the land, in order to hand it over to Tawhiao. : Rewi said he would go to Auckland with Mr Sheehan to meet the Governor. —Star../ -. ■ ■■•; ;,.■ ;.■...•;:; ;
