James McCannon was charged with unlawfully dnlaying to admit the police when summoned to do so.

Defendant pleaded that he had not heard the police, haying been at his brother-in-law's, who was very ill. The evidence of Constables Clery and Day was taken, which was to the effect that in consequence of a disturbance in

the defendant's hotel, they had tried to get admission, but those inside would not open the. door for 20 minutes after they had commenced knocking.

Fined 40s and costs.
