COUNTY COUNCIL.

Tin following reports were' presented at the regular meeting of tins body held to-day—

THE BOABD OF WOEKS BEPOET,

Your Board have the honour to report as follows :—The seven contracts recently let between the Borough boundary and Tapu, are all being proceeded with by the contractors, in most instances in a satisfactory manner; but notice will require to be served on some of the contractors to proceed more energetically with their work. During the month three contracts have been let for widening and improving the road between Tapu and "Waikawau, in each of which fair progress is being made by the contractors. In Waiotahi and Kauwaeranga Hidings very few men have been employed during the month. The contractors for cutting and metalling Kewi's Hill have . nearly completed their work, and the contract for forming and metalling the approaches would have been finished ere now if the contractor could have engaged teams for the metalling. The contractor for metalling the Ohine- | muri main road has completed about 120 chains in length, and he is 3till energetically proceeding with the work. '^Another contract for cutting and forming several unfinished portions of the Ohinemuri main road has been let during the month, and the contractor has started the work. A contract has been ; let for fascining and filling the PukePaeroa road, on which the contractor has started work; and the contract for outfall drains will soon be completed. The Ohinemuri bridge contract is being proceeded with satisfactorily, and the oontractors for fenctDg Te Aroha road are engaged in procuring posts and rails for the work. Two contracts have been let for cutting and forming a road through. Uotokohu bush, and tenders are invited for embanking swamps on a portion of the Te Aroha road near Kotokohu. : .Tenders are also invited for metalling the road between Paeroa and Mackaytown. A ll the contracts on the Katikati road are progressing satisfactorily, With the exception of section No. 2, which in all probability will not be completed by the contractor, the price being altogether; too low for the work. The snagging of the Waihou river having been stopped by the natives in the early part of the month has not since been started, but,the snagging punt and one man are still retained on the river. The ferry punt at Te Aroha is now fixed and at work, and \y ill be a great convenience to travellers. —Alexandeb Bhodie, Chairman of Committsie.

THAMES "WATBB BACK. :, ; You Committee have the honor to re* port that the Waio-Karaka'Waiotahi tunnel is now driven a distance of about IC:3 feet, leaving a length of about 350 feet still to drive. The tunnel on Mangakirikiri branch race is now through, and timbering will be completed and tunnel cleared up in a few days. No., 1 tunnel on main race has been lined, by the contractor. The engineer's report re, maintenance of race is attached. —'Alexander Beodie, Chairman of Committee." ■ ),
