Thames Ladies' Benevolent Society.

The Honorary Treasurer's account of Thames Ladies' Benevolent Society shews only a credit balance of some three pounds, while the liabilites are rery heary, and the claims upon the; Society increasing daily. Under such circumstances, the ladies at their meeting yesterday decided to appeal to the whole community for contributions to enable them to carry out their duties. It is proposed to make a canvass of the whole township for contributions, or at least such parti of it as the ladies are able to reach. For such a descrying object we trust a

liberal response will be made, and hope that the mention of the state of tho funds will urge our amateurs to organise some performances in aid of the cause. Notwithstanding the liberal allowance made by the local authorities for the poor and destitute, there are many cases that require the attention of the kind ladies of the Benevolent Society, and which are occasionally overlooked by the dispensers of charity. So that all may have an opportunity of contributing to the funds, —for every person cannot be reached by the lady canvassers—wo will have a list in our publishing office, where subscriptions may bo paid, and all such will be acknowledged through our columns.
