Opera Season.
We are glad to be able to inform our readers that after a considerable interval the theatregoers of the town will again have pleasure in witnessing the representations of an English Opera Company. Mr Mitchell has decided to bring a company to the Thames and play a season of three nights at the Academy of Music, commencing on Saturday next. The prima donna is Miss Wangenheim, concerning whom a Melbourne paper writes as follows:— Miss Wangenheim possesses a sweet soprano voice of full power, well cultivated, and altogether most pleasing. Her selections last evening, operatic and ballad, were all beautifully sung, and the audience was evidently most deeply pleased." Amongst the names of the other members of the company, we notice those of Mr Florence and Mr Mitchell, who have been here with previous ope'.u companies. The company's repertoire comprise some of the gems of the lyric stage, and the lessee, Mr Mitchell, informs us that during the stay cf the company here, there will be produced the following operas :—Maritrna, Sonnambula, Madame Angot, Bohemian Girl, Martha, and Grand Duchesse. The t. ompany openshereon Saturday next, in Maritana, in the production of which they are said to be pre-eminently successful.
