Lieutenant Governor Stephens has opened the Intercolonial Agricultural Exhibition. There are 7CD exhibits which bear favorable comparison with all previous exhibitions, especially in stock.
Flour is quoted at £11 7s 6d; wheat, 4s; New Zealand, 4s 3d to 4s 6d; oats, 3s 6d to 3s 9d.
Melbourne, April 19.
Mr Berry expects a definite answer shortly. He telegraphs that Mr Haddon, editor of the Argus, in a letter in the Times, protests against Imperial interference, and that the Council was prepared to yield. Professor Pearson remains a month longer, as Mr Berry returns next mail.
Melboubnb, April 21.
Four vessels have been chartered to take eighteen hundred tons of flour and sixteen hundred tons of wheat to Callao, owing to the war in Chili. .
