At the Police Court yesterday, Stevenson, hotel-keeper at Renwick, was charged under a Statute of George 2nd for disposing of a pair of ponies and a carriage by lottery. It was contended for the defence that the statute mentioned was not now in force in New Zealand. Judgment re?3rved for a week.
