■?: r ~- "■ ; M' ''■■-■ ' ;■-/_'■: \p;i Saturday. The Parihaka meeting commenced on Thursday, and ended today: About 600 natives were present, including Te Whiti, Titokowaru, and Hiroki. Mr James Maekay, Mr Blake, and other Europeans, were present. v Te Whiti spoke for two, hours on Thursday, his sentiments being very peaceful. He s*:d the Government ended their dispute with the sword, but he Wuld settle this dispute with his tongue. Mr Mackay spoke on Friday, suggesting a commission of enquiry as 'a solution of the difficulty. .This was favourably received by most of those present, except Te Whiti, who did not seem to favourably entertain it. Hiroki was not so demonstrative as at the last meeting. He moved about with a body guard to assist him to distribute the food to the European visitors, who were very kindly received. - , / .
