The following reports weje laid on the table of the Council to-day, being the usually monthly meeting of that body:—

Your Committee have the honor to report as follows on Count? roads and works:—Tapu Road: Repairs and improvements have been executed on this road during the month, and seven contracts have been pegged out on the ground for metalling, widening, and improving that portion of the road between th) ,Borougli .boundary and Waiorno Greek. Contracts. are being pegged out for widening and improving the road between. Hastings and • Wsikawaii.—-Kauaeranga and Waiotahi: Roads and tracks in .Kauae'r'angaand'Waiotahi btf« been improved and tept in repair principally* Ky ratepayers' giving labor in lieu of rates. —Eewai's Mill: The contractor for outtin^, gracing and metalFng Rewai's Hill is pioceeding satisfactorily with his wort. A contract has bejn let for improving the approaches to Rewai's Hill, and .tlto contractor has a large portion ; pf one of tile approaches already completed.— Ohinqmuri Main Road: A contract has been accepted for metalling that pci'tipii of t&e Ohinemuri main road betivean Parawai road and Kirikiri Creek, and the con* .tractor has already made a good start with the wprki—Ohinemuri Riding: Tke contractor, for the bridge across < tho Ohinemuri River has started' work, 1 and the contractors'oh the Katikati Road are proceeding vigorously and Satisfactorily with. their, several contrasts. EEPOET OF WATEB EACE COJd^ITTBB. Water Race: The tunnel between Waio.Earakaacd Waiotahi hajr now been driven a distance of more than 800 feet. The contractors will not complete; their contract within the specified time. The construction 1 of trestle work and flushing in the Waiotahi Creek is now: completed, with the exception of the junction near tnnnelmoutS which cannot be done until the tunnel contract is completed. No. 1 contract, Maungakirjkirr tunnel, is now driven a distance of 155 feet;' 96 feet have been driven during the last month.; 4 This contract will not be finished Within the specified time. The other section of the Maungaki nkiri tunnel, is.,now driven : a total distance of 138 feet. The ground in this section continues to be very,hard. The material for fencing the.reservoir,in the Waio-Karaka is now. on' the ground, and the contiactor laterd/^to complete the, work within 14 dayT*from date. Timber is being prepared foVthe lining of three tunnels in the Kauaeranga Valley. Flans and specification are being prepared for works necessary for completion of the race.—Alex. Bsodie, Chairman.
