Complete Suppression of the

Revolt.

Sydney, March 25.

News from New Caledonia to 7th inst states that 124 rebels in the Orail district surrendered; which, with'one ortwoei

oeptions, comprise the whole of the rebels in that district. 56 of these were women, all being sent to the Isle of Fines or Bflleplsland.

The Adio and Poya districts are also free of rebels. ■:■"';

Dioust, Chief of Bourail, and 150 of his men, are still at large amongst the mountains, but it is expected they too will surrender in^a short time.

On 26th a dreadful murder was reported at Bourail. i, i .

Two convicts, members of a band of 15, armed against the rebels, shot their commander dead in his bed. When the deed was discoVered the others immediately gare chase and wounded one of the murderers who surrendered. The other one esoaped. ■■ - On March 3rd, Norico, a war chief of Canala, brought in 40 rebels, amongst whom was the infamous Cham, who shed a great deal of blood, and several other noted murderers.

Six of them were immediately shot, and the rest sent into exile.

The few blacks not yet taken are leading a miserable life, hiding amongst the rocks and forests completely croahed in spirit.

It is estimated about nine hundred blacks hare been killed, and eleven, hun« dred captured and banished to neighboring islands Binoe the rerolt in June, 1878. . I

On the afternoon of the 7th newi was received of the killing of ten rebels, anil capture of same number of prisoners, by the faithful Zone tribe. This tribe, 400 strong, commenced operations against the insurgents, and put them to flight without being aided in any way by whitest • -\ '
