WELLINGTON.

Thursday.

The Chronicle to-night, in an article headed " Strange conduct of the Premier," makes a violent attack upon Sir George Grey, accusing bim of keeping the hands ot the Native Minister tied, and of going to the Kawau when trouble was impending. It says, " There is no use seeking to disguise it in any way, Sir George Grey fled from his post like a coward, at the very time when he was most needed, and when he was fully aware of the impending danger. He will give no assistance to the Ministry of which he is the responsible head, but leaves them to take their own course unaided." " Sir George " (the article says) " should follow one of two obvious courses, he should discharge the functions of Prime Minister in their entirety, or he should vacate the position." The article, in conclusion, says " The Premier, instead of being a source of strength to his colleagues is a stumbling-block, impeding them at every step, and warns him the country will not stand his conduct much longer."
