His Excellency and Lady Bobinson were brought off in a steamer, on boaid which were all the Ministers in Wellington. A lar^e concourse of people assembled to witness ; the landing, estimated from six, to eight thousand persons. The Mayor and City Councillors and a large number of leading citizens and ladies were present on the platform. The Mayor presented an address of welcome to which his Excellency replied very briefly, saying he hoped the favorable estimate they had formed of his abilities would not be lessened by the - closer intimacy, which he hoped would exist between them. His Excellency was then driven off to Government House^ where he was sworn in by Mr Justice Eichmond. A vice-regal salute was fired when his Excellency left the Emerald, and another when he was sworn jjo^ ;H!S Excellency was heartily cheered on l«nding, and again after replying to the municipal address, and still more enthusiastically afterbeing sworn in.
