The Hinemoa conveys Sir George Grey from Kawati to Wangarei today. He will turn the first sod of the WangareiKamo railway to-morrow, to be followed by a public luncheon. Sir George Grey is not in good health. Arrived: Wanaka. A steamer is signalled which is believed to be the Tararua from Sydney.

Macgregor's new steamer of one hundred tons, the Glenelg, which is intended for the Tauranga trade, is eighteen days out from Hobartown, and fears are entertained for her safety.

At the Police Court today, Nelson Ireland was charged on remand with attempted rape on Catherine Ireland, his daughter, being under the age of twelve. The Court, was cleared, and witnesses ordered out. Mr Tyler for the prisoner^ Catherine Ireland deposed she; was combing her hair in the bedroom where her father was lying when the assault was committed. She told her mother, who informed the police. The prisoner was not drunk. Witness also deposed to frequent quarrels between her paren'.s. The case is now proceeding.

At the inquest on the remains of SergtMajcr Prazer, who shot himself, a verdict of " Suicide under temporary derangement was returned."
