RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAY. (Before Major Keddell, R.M.) DBCJNKENNESS. One person (who appeared in court with a battered faje) pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Albert street, last-evening, and was fined 20s and costs, or 48 hours' imprisonment. WANDEBING GOAT. Catherine Martin was charged with permitting a goat to remain across Queen street. Defendant said that the goat was not hers. " ■■'■■■-■■■ - - ■ ■■•■■■■-■ ■■ ■ 'V-w Mr Kenny said that the defendant's little girl had tied the goat up. Constable Clery deposed that on the sth inst. he saw the goat tied across the road, and the defendant said she had sold it to a Mrs Quint, at Tapu. It had come back, and she had sent her girl to fasten :it,Up.- . ; ■ •;- ■•: , -.-.. ■ ■-. .- , :. s - a Defendant deposed that the goat did not belong to her, and the person who bought it had taken it away again to Tapu. ■......:. Fined 2s, and costs. OBSCENITY.
Hannah Place was charged with having used obscene language withiu hearing of a public place. Defendant pleaded not guilty. Sergeant Mulville deposed that he was on duty at 11 o'clock on the night in question, near Mennie and Dey's when hfr attention was drawn toDavy street ;by a woman screaming and talking loud. He went over and heard the defendant using bad language. He asked what was the matter, and she went on using the bad language and abusing her husband. He cautioned her, and told her, to go inside, and she repeated the bad language. , . ; Constable Jeffrey gave corroborative evidence.
Fined 20s and costs, or in default seven days'imprisonment.
