Owing to the financial difficulties of the corporation, a series of resolutions recommending the stoppage of all expenditure and the discontinuance of lighting the streets have been tabled for consideration at the next meeting. *
His Excellency Sir Hercules Bobinson was entertained at a banquet at the Reform Club last night. The attendance was large. ;
Melboubnj, Saturday. Cricket—English v. Victorians. At to-day's Autumn meeting :— Newmarket Handicap : Diomedes, 1; Le Loup, 2.

The return cricket match was resumed to-day. The Victorians, in their first innings, scored 146 ; second innings, 151. The English team, second innings, 31 for four wickets. The latter require only 22 to win, with six wickets to fall.
Melboubnb, Monday. The health of the Marchioness of Nor manby is gradually improving.
• The overland lino between Adelaide and Port Darwin is again interrupted. '
