In the cricket match the Englishmen's 6rst inning 9 were 267; Welshmen, two out for 53. Our fielding was bad. The English batting splendid.
Three men have been committed for trial in connection with the recent fatal pugilism at Windsor.
The return match of the English team against Eleven of New South Wales was commenced to-day. The Englishmen in the first innings made 268. Hornby contributed 67; Ulyett, 66; Lucas,-51 . Emmet, 0; Perm, 13; Boyle, 6; Absolom, 6 ; Schultze, 6 ; Hone, not out, 4. At first the Englishmen seemed to defy the bowling. The first three wickets made 217. Ulyett was magnificently caught by Evans. Then the wickets fell rapidly. For New Souih. Wales, two wickets down for 37 runs. A. Bannerman contributed 16; Thompson, 2. Sydney, February 6. In the Cricket match the English team versus JS'ew South Wales continued today. New South Wales in the first iunings made 177 ; in the second innings 18, with the loss of one wicket. Murdoch was given run out by the English umpire, but the crowd dissatisfied and rushed the ground, so that play stopped, but will be resumed on Monday. Melbourne, February 7. Sir Charles Slade addressed his constiluents at Portland yesterday. He characterised the Council Reform Bill as truly liberal. #
Terrible bush fires are raging at Colac. Four men were burnt to dcalb. Two
others are not expected to recover. There are fires all over the country. Bbisbank, February 7. Mr McElwraith, the Premier, has been elected. Macrdssan, Minister of Works will be opposed by Mr Morgan, a local lawyer.
