This day. Mr Moor, who recently arrived from Wellington to edit the Giobe, died at an early hour this morning from rheumatic fever. He had been ill about three weeks. The horses Loonidas and Javelin went north by the s.s. Taupo on Saturday night. Geoige Butler, a servant living at Eaiapoi, committed suicide by hanging himself yesterday. ' In the case Henderson and Napier v. Harbour Board, the evidence for the plaintiff closed on Saturday. The defen* dant's case will be opened this morning. . Saturday. Ford and Co. sold Gilligan's horses Laertes and Javelin to day. The former —entered for the Wellington Cup, Napier Handicap, and Dunedin Publicans' Handicap—after a spirited competition, was knocked down to P. Butler for 450 guineas. Javelin was sold to Mr Delamain for 350 guineas. ! The bowling match between Christ* church and Dunedin to-day resulted in the defeat of the former by 8,4 points to 32. They were completely overmatched. There are over a thousand cesspools in Christchurch, to which and the porous saturated nature of the soil most of the zymotic diseases are attributed.
