The Hon. J. Sheehan, the Mayor, and Messrs Brodie, Aitken, Eraser, Eeddell, Gibbons and a number of others reached here at 11 o'clock., Mr Sheehan went to the public hall, which was filled with residents.' Mr Phillips laid before him a number of resolutions carried at a public meeting asking favor for this district. Mr Sheehan promised £2000 to County for bridge over the Ohinemuri Eiver, and £250 to take snags out of the Waihou. He said he would lay a request that work should be commenced on railway line north and south of Paeroa before Minister of Public Works; also, that the telegraph line to Katikati should be done if sufficient money was at disposal of that department. Mr Porter asked several matters touching Mackaytown, to all of which Mr Sheehan promised attention, especially the price to be charged to occupiers and agricultural leases. He promised if the Judge of the Native Lands Court did not object that next Court would be held at Ohinemuri. He said the Native Department's officers were instructed to purchase the freehold of the goldfield as fast as possible; no delay for money. He said appointment of J.P. would be made. Pereniki te Kokako died this morning, a chief of importance in this place.
