CARTERTON.

Thursday.

A strong bush fire is raging here. It started from the edge of a clearing, and is burning next to the railway station. Several houses are in imminent danger.

The police and telegraph stations are also in considerable danger. Between 20 and 30 men are now trying to stay the progress of the flames, but so far in vain. The wind is increasing. The police station took fire last night, but the fire was got under.
