Proposed Banquet to the Hon. J. Sheehan.

A meeting for the purpose of making arrangements for the carrying out of the proposed banquet to the Hon. J. Sheehan was held at the Governor Bowen Hotel last evening. Amongst those present were—The Mayor (in the chair), Messrs Ehrenfried, J. E. Macdonald, Thompson, E. F. Tizard, Small, A. J. Allom, Mcllhone, Bruce, Nolan, and a number of others.

Tbe Mayor explained the object of the meeting. He said they all knew that Mr Sheehan was one of the best friends the Thames ever had, and it was only right they should show their appreciation of his action on behalf of the Thames. Some years ago they had given Mr Sheehan a banquet, and it would only be just for them to show they continued their appreciation of bis interest in this district. On the motion of Mr P. Whalan, seconded by M| Allom, Mr Mcllhone was elected secretary. Mr Porter referred to Mr Sheehan's valuable services to this district. He moved that the following gentlemen be a committee to get up. a banquet to Mr Sheehan, to take place on Monday next: —The Mayor Messrs Thompson, J. E. Mucdonald, Ehrenfried, Hollis, Nolan, McVey, A. Porter, Hogg, Bruce, and Small. , This was seconded by Mr Allom and carried. It was decided that the tickets be 10s 6d ..each, and that the committee meet at the Governor Bowen Hotel on Friday evening next. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting. . ,;
