A CHILD WITH A TAIL : FACT FOR DARWIN.

We have received from a correspondent in Calcutta a photograph of a child which Ims all the appearance of having been born with a caudal appendage. The correspondent in sending the photograph, writes: —"! enclose a photograph, interesting, no doubt, to the discipleß of Darwin, of a child born with a tail a few months ago in the tea districts of Darjeeling. Its parents are healthy coolies, and this is the first of their family, so that future births may be looked forward to, if not with certainty of result, at least with interest as to de-tail. The child has sensibility in the tail, though no power over it; but this is not considered very remarkable, seeing that monkeys fresh from the virgin forest have not for some time after their birth the ability to wag theirs. There is no gammon in this, for! am acquainted with a gentleman who has both seen and handled the child, and he pronounces it to be a healthy boy, well developed in all its parts, and, with the exception which cr-ates the oddity, having no other malformation about it." The photograph, as we have said, bears marks of being genuine and the corresSondent is trustworthy, and not at all kely to be a victim of or to pereptrate a hoax.—Dundee Advertiser.
