BALCLUTHA.

This day. A very strong gale has been blowing since yesterday afternoon. The river is in high flood and rising very slowly, the protective works in progress proving effective. But for these the township would have again been flooded, but not the slightest danger at present. There was a considerably larger body of water flowing over into Inchclutha to-day.
