KAUAERANGA GIRLS' SCHOOL.
The annual distribution of prizes to pupils attending the above.school took pTaceat- the school room yesterday afternoon, t The school room was crowded with, the scholars, and spectators, and Dr Kilgpur Chairman of the School Committee occupied,the chair._ After the children had sung a school song the chairman delivered a short address on the education of women. After several recitations, the Chairman made a few remarks on behalf of Miss Haselden. The number, of children hare not decreased during the year, but grdat inconreitienceJMN experienced through the in- v adequate aceomodation provided by the bttHdwgp,., Miss H»wlden wished him to thank the teacher* land pupil teachers, and to express.reg*£ at the indisposition of Miss Boon, the assistant teaohe& whose place had'been taken by Miss Joynt. -■ Mrs Kilgour then distributed the prizes as , follows:—lnfant. Girls and B ya: Margaret Carson, Emma Prescott, Louisa Daykin, Valentine Savage, Henry Raynor.—2hkl Ciasi: Samuel Carson, Nellie Fletcher^ Sarah Carson (conduct), .Annie. Smith, Bessie. Tuck.—3rd Class: Elizabeth Gibb, Mary McQuade, Eliza Heid, SaVah Goad, Mary' Driver (conduct).— 4th Class • Mary Wells (conduct), Martha Stilwill, Eiizabeth Carson, Eiizibeth Savage.—sth Class: Fanny - Fisher, Mary J, Daykin.—6th Class: Millie Fisher, Jessie Patersbn, Lottie Murrish ; ., (conduct).—Twenty-nine girls received certificates of merit from Miss •Haselden,—?Prizes, for needlework were distributed; as follows:—Louisa Daykin, Emma Bickers; Jemima Edwards. Rewards; for needlework were awarded to Sarah Goad, Agnes Fyfe, Maggie Burns, and Bertie' RobinsohV Nine children received the Board of Education certificate for good lit tendance. Several' songs'wierq then rendered in a manner'that reflected'credit on the singing tfach,er^ Mr 'Grige,' and a'scene from the " Merchant' of Venice"' was fairly performed by some of the senior girls.
