THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20, 1878.

The monthly inspection of the several companies of our citizen soldiery will take place to-morrow afternoon at fire o'clock, at the Beach, Grahamstown, and it is expected there will be a large master, as it is probable Sir George Grey will be present at the parade. After Major Withers' inspection, a number of prizes, etc., will be presented, including two war medals, to Mr O'Loughlen, late 70th foot; the Thames District Belt to P.O. Mitchell, and a medal to a member of the Thames Scottish Cadets. On accouut of the Kail way Demonstration to-morrow. J. Marshall, draper, &c, will close his shops in Albert street and Pollen street at 12 noon and re-open at 6 p.m. : A Cobomandel correspondent telegraphs that Mr Cadman (County Chairman), Councillors Lynch and Blackmore started overland this morning to represent Coromandel County at the turning of the sod for the Thames Valley Railway tomorrow. We would call attention to programme of organ' recital at St. George's this evening, and to point out that programmes with the various pieces to be sung can be obtained at the parsonage (as also tickets) until commencement of recital. We hear that the two new stop-? in the organ— hautbois and sesquialtera—are completed, and are very effective. As the selection of music appears to be of a high-class and suitable for the approaching festive season, we anticipate that the church will, as on previous occasions, be well filled. Messes Gel lion and Co. sold by auction at noon to-day the tribute in the Queen of Beauty Extended G.M-.Co. known as Wilson and John's. The auctioneer, having read the conditions of sale, explained the terms of the tribute agreement, defining the area of the mine to be worked, Ac. It appears the lease has one year to run from January next, ten men to be employed in the tribute, and if it remains unworked for three days to be forfeited; fourpence per truck load of stuff raised to be paid to the company and twenty per cent, of all yields. There was a lot of

property sold with the tribute, including tools and mining timber. The bidding started 5 at £20, and was rapidly run to £76, at which price it was knocked down to Mr E. Cameron. The small price realised seemed to cause surprise, as shares in this tribute fetched some time ago more than the whole tribute has now brought on being put to the hammer.

The annual meeting of Court Pride of Parnell, No. 4409, Ancient Order of Foresters, was held last evening at the Court room, Owen street, when Bro. Schofield* the retiring Chief Banger, after which the new Chief Banger invested the following brethren:—Sub Chief Banger, Bro. Henry Hay; Senior Woodward,. Bro.
