Mpnday. i. To-day was the 28th anniversary ot the' settlement of the province of Canterbury. It was glorious weather. The celebration commenced with a special service in the cathedral, to welcome, the return of Bishop Harper from England. There was an address to the Bishop and a full
1 choral service. There was a grand ban* quet to tKe^ visiting members of the Volunteer Fire, Brigades from Danedin, Fort Chalmers, Waimate, Motnington, Kaiapoii Timaru, Eangiora, and Lytteljtoq. T^ticf Anniversary sports in Hagley ! Park irere, a great success. Seventeen > thousand people were on the ground. The " tug of war" against the visiting brigades was won in every instance by the ChristchUrch. To-night there was a torchlight procession and a grand pyroI teo^nio display.
