CHRISTCHURCH.

This day.

Mr Floyd has been appointed manager of railway telegraphs for the South Island, and commences his duties on the Ist of January. It is proposed to whclly dissociate the railway telegraphs from the general telegraphs of (he Colony.

New railway workshops are to be commenced immediately upoa a piece of ground adjoining the station at Addington, some 20 acres in extent. The whole of the bid workshop will be remored, every available apace being required for strictly railway purpose.

At a meeting of the Hospital Board last night it was discovered that the interior management of the Hospital was in a thorough state of disorganisation, through divided authority. It seemed as if no one knew what his or her duty was. It was resolved to hold a special meeting to consider the whole question. The secretary was instructed to write to the Government to say that if a member of the bDard were not gazetted in accordance with a request previously expressed, they would decline to act any further, as they considered the neglect of the Government to Gazette them was an insult to the whole Board. Altogether the entire meeting was acrimonious, and Mr Montgomery said if such unpleasantness were to prevail he should certainly resign.

The Inspector of Telegraphs and the Postmaster-General yesterday visited the telegraph offices at Lyttelton and Christchurch. It was decided that the business should in future be done on the ground floors.

Judge Johnston returned from Wellington yesterday.
