Wednesday

The police have received information that there is good reason for believing a man named W. Newman, of Nelson, has been drowned in the Wairau river. Hii horse was found on the Tophouse side of the river, with everything wet on the saddle and both stirrups gene. A telegram from Tophouse says no trace of the body had been found up to five o'clock this morning, and no person saw Newman after passing, the accommodation house at Manuka Island.
