Kama and Dundee, however, did not come to the post, so that the field was reduced to fire. Of these the grand colt Natator, after his champagne victory of last year, was greatly fancied. The result of the race showed that those who pinned their faith to the Hose and Black were not wrong in their opinion. Nemo had a following, and so also had York, whilst Merlin had a few friends. The handsome filly Naiad had no friends, and her chance was gone after the first quarter of a mile. Mr Campbell made a good start, the horses being well in line. -Nemo went away with the lead, with Natator and York close up, Naiad and-Merlin forming the rear. Their was a division at the turn by Redwood's paddock, York went and took second place, with Natator third, and Merlin and Naiad still in the rear. Coming to the fords Merlin went, leaving Naiad in the rear, but he was unable to get on terms with his leaders. Nemo, Natator and York still held their respective positions to the turn, where the favorite went to the front, closely followed j by York, Nemo's bolt being shot. , From this to the rails a capital race ensued between Natator and York bat the Traducer colt went straight as a line, while the other colt, swerving as he did in the champagne, the son of Waterwick won comfortably by three lengths, Nemo third, Merlin and Naiad not being persevered with. The new owner of the winner was loudly cheered on scoring his .first win of the meeting.

For the Chbistchubch Jockey Club Handicap fourteen were colored on the card, but of these Pinafore and Ariel were absent. This race was considered a very open one, owing to the handicap being so good, and many of the knowing ones were at a loss to spot it. After a little delay at the post, m which the colors of Bribery and Maritana were conspicuous, Mr Campbell got the lot except Bribery away on very good terms, leaving Bribery at the post. Maritana at once went to the front, making the pac « very warm indeed, with Fishhook, Lvi aa, Chancellor and Templeton close up, t he rest forming the rear division. In th) is order they passed the stand, and at th a turn Chancellor, Maritana', Rama, FisbAopk and Templeton were the advance guard with the rest, except Bribery, who w as making strenuous efforts. Close up at (She roads Kama was ont of it, and Laertes, had shot his bolt. Fishhook and Chancellor wore dose up to Maritana, who we ill held i&e pride of place. Here the Hook made his efforts, but the game little mare, favored with the advantage of weight, was not to be reached. Chancellor, as the horses came to the rails of the run in, came into second place, and a grand race ensued between Maritana, Chancellor and Fishhook. They ran so closely that it was thought to be a dead heat between the first two. However, the judge gave his verdict in favor of Maritana, Fishhook being third, Templeton fourth, and Longlands fifth. The rertprere not ridden oat.
Time: 3min. 36jsecs. Betting: 4to 1 Templeton, 5 to 1 Fishhook and Longlands, 10 to 1 Maritana, 6 to 1 Luna, 2 to 1 Rama, 10 to 1 Mufti. This day, 2.6 p.m. The second day's racing commenced this morning under the most favorable ' auspices. The weather was excellent, though rather windy, and the attendance was much larger than on t'-e first day, the grand stnnd being crowded even before the first race, which was announced to start at one o'clock, and which came off with great punctuality.
Maiden Plate.—Betting 6 to 4 against Pinafore. 3to 1 against Dundee; time 2miDs. 48Jsecs. Kamarama aud Merlin •were scratched. Nemo 1, Pinafore 2, Dundee 3. After one false start the horses got away very well together, Nemo having a slight lead with Dundee second and Pinafore third ; the race was a good one throughout, and at the straight Pinafore and Nemo were almost neck and neck, but the latter put on a spurt and won by half a length, Dundee a good third.
