A DARIEN CANAL.
Upward* of a ye,ar ago an account was giren of an exploration made across the Isthmus of Darien by an expedition nnder Lienteriant Wysjyof the French Navy, 1 with » view to the construction of an inter-oeeariic canal. The project originated with a sort of international company, haying its seat in France, and after, the most careful exploration, carried on till quite recently; Lieutenant Wyse reported in favour of a line from the point Gandi or Acanti, on the Atlantic side, along the iTalleysof'the Tujisa andTiatu to the i river Tuyra, ne~aY where it discharges m the Gulf of San Miguel. Recently Lieutenant Wyse went to Bogota tonegociate i with the Colombian Government for the concessions required for carrying out the projeejt,"and,newß has just been, received thata-eontract has been concluded between the Government mentioned and the Inter* national Committee.' Among other conditions it is stated that the canal will be neutral and be free to the commerce of the world. The .company are to receive a grant of the land for 600 ft. on each side of the canal, anil, ifaeiides, a million acres in »ny part.of the country they choose. £wery facility will be given to obtain the use* of the necessary matSriel, and the work is to be completed before 1895.
