Supplementary Estimates.
Wellington, Tuesday. The Supplementary Estimates are out to - night. The amounts in full are £94,295 additional, chargeable on the consolidated fund, and £686,203 on tbe; public works fund.; The following are some of the item's:—Lunatic asylums, i teacher Deaf and Dumb. Institutions, £400. Postal—chief officer, Auckland, suburban letter carriers delivery (6 months), £175. Marine—Naval Training School, repairs, and addition to buildings, £200; in aid ef establishment of Sailors' Homes, £600 each to Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin. ' Education—scholarships (additional) £125; expenses of BoyalCommission on the New.Zealand, University and- secondary education, £100; native clerk at Alexandra, £125; T. W. Porter, compensation for loss of office (also Constabulary estimates £100), £100; Native Schools, Auckland, Taupo, four months, £40; Militia and Volunteers, purchase Snider ammunition (additional); £3500; Volunteer Bifle Association, £2000; Constabulary retiring allowances ' (additional), £3000; extra pay for constabulary* : £3855; Goldfielas. Mining Inspector, Hauraki (additional), .£SO; allowance to A.J. Allom, for services as receiver of gold revenue at Ohinemuri, from 1875 to 1877, £150. Miscellaneous:—Bey. T. S. Grace, compensation for losses during the native disturbances, awarded by Mr Commissioner Beckham in February, 1878, £2069 12s; gratuity to Susannah Lowry, widow of: the late headkeeper of the Auckland Asylum, £150; John Ander- , son,. Mahurangi, payment of Supreme Court expenses-in- connection with an incorrect Surrey, £380 5s 4d; anchor and cable testing apparatus for Auckland, . Wellington, Lyttolton, and Dunedin, £3000; County Council Thames, fees received in 1877-78 from Thames water-race, £1122 Os 6d; F. W. Paul, late captain Hauraki Bifle Volunteers, for injury sustained to his eye while marking at a range, £50; subsidy to Volunteer Hall at Hamilton, £100; J. S. Miscellaneous Public Works: Harbour defences, £44,000; roads in deferred payment, blocks disposed of prior to Ist January,; 187,3, £10,000; for loans to local, governing bodies to enable them to repair damages caused by the recent floods, £50,000. .North' Island lines authorised by the Bailway Construction Act, 1878: Wellington, to.Foxton, by West Coast, £15,000, Waitotaraßiver to Upper Patea crossing, £40,000; Te Awamutu to; New Plymouth, £12,000; Masterton to Papatu, via Woodville,- £16,000; Waikato to the Thames, £30,000; branch line to Hamilton, £2000; Helensville to Kaukapakapa River, £2000; Whangarei to Zamo, £5000. £100;000 is put down for additianal frails, if found advisable to take advantage of the market.
