WELLINGTON.

This day.

Mr Alfred Scales, once of Messrs Creighton and Scales, of the Southern Cross, Auckland, and who has been very ill for some time back, died this morning.

Mr Eowe has secured a promise from the Committee of the Council on Thames High School Bill that ten thousand acres will be granted as an endowment and placed under local trustees. The Committee objected to granting power to borrow on prospective endowments.

The land to be appropriated for the Thames High School is part of the Broomhall land. The Government have given a bonus to the Eingarooma to remain till to-morrow afternoon, so as to take Southern members to their homes. [What an interest* ing piece of news!]
